The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government has reaffirmed its strict stance against the dumping of low-quality products in the local market, ensuring that consumers have access only to goods meeting high standards. This commitment safeguards consumer trust, strengthens local industries, and maintains the nation’s reputation for excellence in trade and manufacturing.
“We don’t want to dump our market with low-quality stuff. At the same time, we encourage manufacturers to ensure that there’s a high-quality product that go from here to the markets we trade with,” Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, said at the Sharjah Ramadan Majlis 2025.
To support this vision, GS1 UAE plays a vital role by enabling businesses to implement globally recognized standards that enhance product traceability, authenticity, and compliance. Through GS1 licensed barcodes, organizations can ensure that only high-quality, legitimate products reach the market, boosting consumer confidence and reinforcing the UAE’s position as a hub for excellence.
“We also want to ensure that manufacturers have raw materials and sustainable supply of power and utilities needed for their businesses. We also ensure that the ecosystem is supporting them when it comes to regulations and laws within the country. We don’t change them so that they don’t disturb their businesses,” Dr. Al Zeyoudi said during a speech at the Majlis.
GS1 standards are designed to improve the efficiency, safety, traceability, and visibility of supply chains across physical and digital channels. They form a universal business language that identifies, captures, and shares key information about products, locations, and assets, thereby enhancing transparency and operational efficiency.
By adopting GS1 standards, businesses in the UAE can align with the government’s stringent quality regulations, ensuring that products comply with the country’s high standards. This alignment not only protects consumers but also strengthens the UAE’s position as a global hub for excellence in trade and manufacturing.
